چکیده

Recently, analysis of structural equation models with polytomous and continuous variables has received a lot of attention. However, contributions to the selection of good models are limited. The main objective of this article is to investigate the maximum likelihood estimation of unknown parameters in a general LISREL-type model with mixed polytomous and continuous data and propose a model selection procedure for obtaining good models for the underlying substantive theory. The maximum likelihood estimate is obtained by a Monte Carlo Expectation Maximization algorithm, in which the E step is evaluated via the Gibbs sampler and the M step is completed via the method of conditional maximization. The convergence of the Monte Carlo Expectation Maximization algorithm is monitored by the bridge sampling. A model selection procedure based on Bayes factor and Occam’s window search strategy is proposed. The effectiveness of the procedure in accounting for the model uncertainty and in picking good models is discussed. The proposed methodology is illustrated with a real example.

Bayesian analysis of two-level nonlinear structural equation models with continuous and polytomous data.

Two-level structural equation models with mixed continuous and polytomous data and nonlinear structural equations at both the between-groups and within-groups levels are important but difficult to deal with. A Bayesian approach is developed for analysing this kind of model. A Markov chain Monte Carlo procedure based on the Gibbs sampler and the Metropolis-Hasting algorithm is proposed for produ...

Statistical analysis of nonlinear structural equation models with continuous and polytomous data.

A general nonlinear structural equation model with mixed continuous and polytomous variables is analysed. A Bayesian approach is proposed to estimate simultaneously the thresholds, the structural parameters and the latent variables. To solve the computational difficulties involved in the posterior analysis, a hybrid Markov chain Monte Carlo method that combines the Gibbs sampler and the Metropo...

Maximum likelihood estimation and model comparison of nonlinear structural equation models with continuous and polytomous variables

Recently, it is recognized that nonlinear relationships among latent variables in a structural equation model are important. In this article, maximum likelihood (ML) analysis of a general nonlinear structural equation model that contains 5xed covariates in the measurement equation and the nonlinear structural equation is investigated. A MCEM algorithm is implemented to obtain the ML estimates, ...

A Comparative Review of Selection Models in Longitudinal Continuous Response Data with Dropout

Missing values occur in studies of various disciplines such as social sciences, medicine, and economics. The missing mechanism in these studies should be investigated more carefully. In this article, some models, proposed in the literature on longitudinal data with dropout are reviewed and compared. In an applied example it is shown that the selection model of Hausman and Wise (1979, Econometri...
